Summary:
Dr. Vijay Kumar talks about systems of current interest, focusing on (1) clusters, nanoparticles, nanotubes and nanowires of elemental and compound semiconductors, (2) carbon nanotubes and fullerenes, (3) nano-structures on semiconductor surfaces, and (4) devices from molecules. However, there is a major problem for nanoparticles: it is difficult to know structures when matter is so small, and also difficult to control the size in some cases. So, computer simulations are necessary and useful. In conclusion, a new paradigm for devices with silicon nanoforms is presented.
