ABSTRACT: Singapore has embarked on an ambitious program to establish itself as a hub for life sciences research and industry. This report describes several of the new organizations and projects and provides an assessment of likely future trends.

ATIP02.053: Petaflop Protein Explorer

ABSTRACT: The Protein Explorer is a special purpose computer being developed in Japan for molecular dynamics simulation. Its very efficient design, coupled with a restricted application set, will allow it to take maximum advantage of off-the-shelf technology to keep costs under control. The Protein Explorer will have a peak performance of approximately 2 Petaflops (2,000 Teraflops). This report describes the machine and project plans.
