HOME-GROWN OPTICAL-TWEEZER TECHNOLOGY EXTRUDES NANOWIRES
By studying the mechanics of biological membranes, Bangalore researchers demonstrate a possible new route for the synthesis of nanowires and nanofluidic networks, with potential applications in nanometer scale fluid dynamics and nanobioelectronics.

INDIA'S SIMPUTER AIMS FOR RETAIL MARKET
India's Simputer, the low-cost alternative to the computer, is expanding its target market base, entering the retail urban market with a handheld that offers text to speech capabilities in multiple languages, wireless web-browsing and email, as well as plays MP3 files.

MIT QUITS MEDIA LAB ASIA
Despite its short life span, the MIT Media Lab and Department of Technology (DIT) alliance launched many projects run by academic institutions, mainly the IITs. Possible reasons for the end of MIT's involvement in Media Lab Asia (MLA) are examined and projects are outlined, including one that has stretched the 802.11 protocol for wireless networks which extend up to 100 km.
